President Patrice Talon and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, give new impetus to bilateral cooperation

At the invitation of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, His Excellency Patrice Talon, President of the Republic of Benin, paid a working visit to Doha on Monday, May 19, 2025.

This visit was an important step in strengthening the lasting friendship and cooperation between the Republic of Benin and the State of Qatar. The talks between the two Heads of State revealed a convergence of views on major regional and international issues, particularly the promotion of peace, stability, and sustainable development.

Qatar welcomed the bold economic and social reforms undertaken by the Government of Benin since 2016, which have laid the foundations for inclusive growth and institutional modernization.

In return, Benin commended Qatar's active engagement on the international scene, particularly in Africa, highlighting its efforts to promote peace, stability, and lasting partnerships on a continental scale.

The two countries expressed their shared desire to strengthen their cooperation in the aviation sector, particularly through a partnership between their respective national airlines, Qatar Airways and Amazone Airlines. They emphasized the importance of establishing a direct air link, which could increase Benin's economic attractiveness and stimulate investment, tourism, freight transport, and cultural exchanges.

The visit also highlighted Qatar's growing commitment to the development of the African continent. Qatar reaffirmed its willingness to support initiatives in the areas of infrastructure, education, and health, in line with its international development agenda and the priorities of African partner countries.

Furthermore, the two countries agreed to strengthen their cooperation in the cultural sector, particularly through the organization of joint exhibitions and the development of museum partnerships. This initiative is part of a shared desire to promote ambitious cultural diplomacy between the Republic of Benin and the State of Qatar.

The Republic of Benin and the State of Qatar reaffirmed their commitment to deepen bilateral consultations, coordinate their positions in multilateral fora, and advance a shared vision of an inclusive, sovereign and prosperous international order.
